Bill McCant
William M. "Bill" McCant, 74 of Excelsior Springs, passed away Sunday, June 22, 2008 at his home. Born October 26, 1933 in Excelsior Springs, Mo., he was the son of Alonzo and Josephine M. (Murray) McCant. On September 23, 1961 at Plattsburg, Mo., he was married to Ruby Rose Ellis who survives of the home. He is also survived by seven children, Myron McCant and wife, Lisa, Parkville, Kevin McCant and Theresa Watson, Excelsior Springs, Tonya Reece and husband, Donald, Kansas City, Kans., Todd McCant and wife, Shannon, Kansas City, Rita McCant, Oklahoma, Mona Wood, Kansas City, and Bill McCant, Jr., Kansas City; two sisters, Margaret McCant and Virginia Smith, both of Excelsior Springs; 13 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Roscoe McCant, and a sister, Eileen McCant. Bill, also known to many as "Buddy," was raised in Excelsior Springs where he received his education. He entered the U.S. Army and served in the Korean Conflict. Upon his return home he first was employed at GM and then later at Ford. For 15 years he was a reserve police officer for Excelsior Springs and for several years had worked in construction, operating heavy equipment and was a truck driver for Lone Wolf and Haley Construction. Buddy had also worked for Job Corps for many years and the City of Excelsior Springs. Bill was a member of the Main Street Baptist Church of Excelsior Springs where he served on the Board of Trustees, was a jack of all trades at the church including general maintenance. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, cooking - especially barbecue, but most of all he loved his family and spending time with his grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 28, 2008 at 1 p.m. at the Excelsior Springs Baptist Church, 1500 Rosalea St., Excelsior Springs, Mo. Visitation will be Saturday from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the church. Burial with military honors will be in the Hillcrest Cemetery, Excelsior Springs. Arrangements under the direction of the Polley Funeral Home, Excelsior Springs.
