Emma L. Roush McPheeters
Emma Lou (Carithers) Roush McPheeters, 80, of Kansas City, formerly of Lawson, Mo., passed away Sunday, June 29, 2008 at her home. Born September 22, 1927 in Bentonville, Ark., she was the daughter of John Wesley and Jessie E. (Chiles) Carithers. On September 23, 1944 she was married to John C. Roush, who preceded her in death December 5, 1999. On January 1, 2002 at Kansas City she was married to Billy Charles McPheeters who survives. Also surviving are two sons, John Roush and wife, Veda, Gladstone, and Steven Roush and wife, Lina, Apache Junction, Ariz.; Bill's sons, Billy E. McPheeters, Gladstone, and Ricky D. McPheeters, Kansas City; one brother, Bill Carithers, Rogers, Ark., and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her parents. Mrs. McPheeters was reared in the Bentonville, Ark. area where she received her education. Following her first marriage she was a homemaker. She and her husband moved to Kansas City in 1948 and she worked in various office positions for Wards and Sears. She then moved to Excelsior Springs and later Lawson where she lived for 25 years. Following their marriage, Bill and Emma moved to Kansas City. She was a member of the Northland Cathedral where she sang in the choir. She was a Sunday school teacher at the Lawson Assembly of God Church for many years. She loved to travel and had the privilege of traveling to many foreign countries often times doing short-term missionary work. She made many friends along the way and she will be missed by her family and friends. Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 3, 2008 at 10 a.m. at the Northland Cathedral, 101 NW 99th Street, Kansas City, Mo. Visitation will be held following the funeral service at the church. A committal service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Lawson Cemetery in Lawson, Mo. The family has suggested memorials to the Northland Cathedral Missionary Program. Arrangements under the direction of Polley Funeral Home, Excelsior Springs, Mo.

I loved her very much and I will always treasure the joy she brought into my life. She was loving and wise and always there to lend a hand or an ear when times called for it. She was a shining example of how all of us should be. She will be greatly missed.
