Edgar Tate Edgar Tate, 88, of Rayville, Mo., went to be with his Lord and Savior, Monday, March 1, 2010, after a long battle with COPD. Edgar was born December 6, 1921 in Macon, Mo., and was preceded in death by his parents, Daniel and Hester (Vrugen) Tate, and his wife of 50 years, Beulah (Armstrong) Tate, whom he married March 8, 1943. His step-son, Emmett Tate, and his wife Beulah’s three sisters and one brother also preceded him in death, Frances Johnson, Thelma Graham, Ada Norris and Jesse Armstrong. He was the third from the youngest, and the last one standing of 11 children, 10 boys and one girl, all preceding him in death, Frederick, Robert, Everett, Carrie, Ralph, Frank, Ward, Claude and Wayne. He is survived by his son, Howard Tate and wife, Cheryl, of Lawson, Mo.; daughter, Linda Sawyer and Keith of Thornton, Colo.; daughter, Betty Spittler and Bernard of Blue Springs, Mo.; two granddaughters, Valerie Tate and Roely, Jennifer Eversole and Brad; and great-granddaughter, Jackie; daughter-in-law, Carol Tate and granddaughters, Anna and Lisa and their families; step-son, Roy Anderson and wife, Joan, and families; step-grandkids, Diane and Doug Burford, Barrett and Torin, Deb Barber and Javier, Rod Spittler and Kathy and Emily, and Randy Spittler; and sisters-in-law, Marie Tate and Hella Tate. Also, his best friend and companion, “Duke-the-Dog”. Edgar was a carpenter by trade and a mechanic. In 1953 he and also five of his blood brothers joined the Masonic Angerona Lodge #193, receiving his 50 year pin in 2003. He was a member of the Second Baptist Church in Liberty, baptized in 1998. He loved the outdoors, animals and children. He was a very happy person, never met a stranger, and always had a good word for everyone. Funeral services and Masonic services will be held Saturday, March 6, 2010 at 3 p.m. at Polley Funeral Home in Excelsior Springs, Mo. Burial in Hillcrest Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday at the funeral home from 1 to 3 p.m. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials to the Edgar Tate Memorial Fund.
