Gary Moerer, Sr.
Gary D. Moerer, Sr., son of George DeWitt Moerer, Jr., and Ollie May Cox Moerer died from the effects of colon cancer at his home in Richmond, Mo., on Thursday, June 26, 2008 at the age of 59, just two months short of his 60th birthday. Born in Iola, Allen County, Kans., August 31, 1948, Gary spent all of his life in the small corridor between Iola, Kans., Springfield, Mo., and the Kansas City metro area. He served in the army in Vietnam from 1968 to 1969 which had a profound impact on the rest of his life. He is preceded in death by his parents and leaves behind his wife, Jeanne Moerer; six children, Melissa Moerer, Diane Killion, David Moerer, Austin Stevenson Owens, Megan Petersen Landers, and Gretchen Petersen Falskin; his brother, Loren Moerer, Shreveport, La.; two sisters, Linda Moerer, Humboldt, Kans., and Jan Wolfe, Petrolia, Kans.; along with various aunts, nieces, nephews, and 11 grandchildren, the most recent of which arrived on June 3rd of this year. Viewing is at Polley Funeral home, 5951 East 10 Hwy, Excelsior Springs, Missouri from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, June 27, 2008. Funeral services will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 13109 Hwy "O", Excelsior Springs at 10 a.m. on Saturday, followed by military services and interment in the Missouri Veterans Cemetery, 5201 South Southwood, Springfield, Mo., Monday, June 30 at 1 p.m. The family is in need of funds to pay for funeral services and request that donations be left at the funeral home in lieu of flowers.
