Waldena Isley
Waldena James (McQuerrey) Isley, age 87, of Pleasant Valley, passed away Thursday morning, June 5, 2008 at her home. Born May 31, 1921 in Rayville, Mo., she was the daughter of Waldon and Tempa Lee (James) McQuerrey. She was united in marriage to Lewis H. Isley in May 1940, in Perryton, Texas, and he preceded her in death in 1980. She was also preceded in death by her parents. Surviving are two sons, James L. Isley and wife, Paula, Excelsior Springs, and Jerry W. Isley, Pleasant Valley; one daughter, Janet Sykes, Pleasant Valley; one sister, Wanda Fuller, Brownsville, Texas; two grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Mrs. Isley was born in Rayville and lived in Kansas City and Liberty with her parents and was a 1938 graduate of Liberty High School. She continued her education at Warrensburg, Mo., attending Southwest Teachers College until she received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in education. She taught in rural schools including Lloyd, Scott, Rayville and Sunnyside for approximately 10 years before going to work for the Department of Agriculture. She later went to work for the Social Security Administration in Kansas City as a claims processor, where she was employed until the late 1960's when she retired due to ill health. Waldene was a fan of Royal's baseball and also enjoyed playing bridge. She was a member of Mensa International and also the National Association of Retired Federal Employees (NARFE). She was a member of Central Christian Church in Brownsville, Texas, and attended Rayville Christian Union Church. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 10, 2008 at 1 p.m. at the Polley Funeral Home in Excelsior Springs. Burial will be in the Richmond Memory Gardens in Richmond, Mo. Visitation will be held Monday, June 9, 2008 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home with the family receiving friends at that time. The family has suggested memorials to the American Cancer Society.
